From Parris Island, South Carolina to the Helmand Province in Afghanistan it became a habit for Zach to travel after joining the Marine Corps. Although Zach may have been away from home physically, he was always with us in our hearts and our minds. Just the same as he has been since January 24, 2010 and will be forever. Since Zach was killed, our family, community, and country have done things to memorialize Zach’s life so he will never be forgotten. Many items have been created that can be used on a daily basis to remember our fallen hero, Zach.
Each year items such as golf balls, bracelets, t-shirts, koozies, and other memorabilia are provided at the annual Zachary D. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament. If while on your travels you have some of this “Zach” memorabilia with you, email your pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org so they can be displayed on this page. So far, items have traveled to Cancun Mexico, Camp Lejeune NC, Marathon FL, Niagara Falls, and the Bahamas.
Thank you to the Larry Gleason Golf Committee for this idea. It is a great way to not only remember Zach, but take him with us wherever we go!
